Anne McLellan is an effective and respected voice for Edmonton Centre, known to be one of the hardest working representatives in Parliament. Her wisdom and tireless work ethic have earned her the all important role of Deputy Prime Minister of Canada.
Anne was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Edmonton in 1993. She has served as Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Minister of Health. Now, in addition to being Deputy Prime Minister, she is responsible for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, a critical task facing Canada today.
Anne has a Bachelor of Art and Law degree from Dalhousie University and a Master of Laws degree from King's College, University of London. In 1980, she became an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Alberta, where she was Acting Dean from 1991 to 1992.
Along with her cabinet duties, and her earned reputation for being a strong voice for the west, Anne has always devoted an extraordinary amount of time to listen or to meet her constituents in Edmonton. Constituents find her to be someone they can trust to follow through and respond on their concerns.
Anne enjoys walking her clumber spaniel, Emma.
On June 28th, 2004, Anne was elected as the Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Edmonton Centre.
